Fisk, on behalf of the Amalgamated Wireless, Limited, addressed the National Club regarding the cheapening of communication with the rest of the world. The scheme would cost £1,000,000, of which the Amalgamated Wireless was prepared to find £450,000, and desired the Commonwealth to subscribe the balance- and take control. He promised to give a first class service at one-third 'less cost per word than the cable, and added that the Commonwealth, besides possessing a powerful plant, would bo saved the present annual deficit of £60,000. THE WHEAT BILL. Tlie Executive of the Labour Party passed a resolution that the Government should swamp the Legislative Council, and recommit the Wheat Bill. MANUFACTURE OF NEWSPRINT. The State timber yards are carrying out experiments in connection w ith the manufacture of newsprint from mountain gum tree pulp. The Government will immediately submit the pulp to a test. Tho Grown owns thousands of acres of land containing mountain gum trees.
