MISCELLANEOUS CABLES.
The British Trade® Union Congress Council decided to cancel the arrangement to hold the next Congress in Belfast, in view of the political situation. President Harding celebrated his fifty-sixth birthday*. He received congratulatory cablegrams and messages from many governments and from King George. The United States Government, through the American Minister at Pekin, has called the Chinese Government’s attention to the seriousness of its failure to meet obligations in connection with the loan made by Chicago financiers. Dr Mammara, in the House of Oortimona, admitted that the abolition of bonuses would reduce wages in the engineering trades below those of builders’ labourers. He declared it was not advisable for the Government to interfere with settlements reached by employers and employed. The United States Senate carried a resolution that Armistice Day should be a national holiday.
