FORGING A CHEQUE.

(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, November 3. Bertram Burwood, on a charge of forging a cheque on the Commercial Bank of Australia, was sentenced to three years’ hard labour. Prisoner altered a cheque, after the ledger-keeper had initialled it, from £'B 10s to £BO 10k. He conducted his own defence, made a vigorous speech, and cross-ex-amined closely.
