WOOLSTON FIRE BOARD.
I SPECIAL MEETING. The Woolston Fire Board met last night i present—Messrs J. J. Graham (chairman W. R. Biazey, L. M. G. Hart, F. A. Tapson and W. J. M’Connell. The Woolston Borough Council forwarded the following resolution, carried at the final meeting of the council:—“ln consideration of the special circumstances arising out of the amalgamation of the Borough of Woolston with the City of Christchurch, this council unanimously and heartily supports the recommendation that the inhabitants of Woolston be granted a special representative on the Christchurch Fire Board and that the Woolston Fire Board be asked to support this resolution and forward same to the proper authorities with the request that the recommendation may be given effect to in the proposed legislation for the abolition of the Woolston Fire Board in favour of amalgamation with the Christchurch Fire. Board.’’ The board went into committee to consider the matter, and on resuming the chairman reported that the following resolutions had been carried :—“ That the Woolston Fire Board desires to place on record the fact that the billiard table and accessories, also the piano in the fire station, and cash held by the chairman as proceeds of the recreation fund, are the property of those persons who at the time of the dissolution of the board are members of the brigade, and the board further grants permission for the removal of these articles on receipt by the brigade of an order from the board.” “That the Woolston Fire Board requests the Christchurch City Council and the Christchurch Fire Board to join with the Woolston Board in a petition to the Minister of Internal Affairs asking that in the special legislation for the abolition of the Woolston Fire Board provision be made similar to that in Section 135 of the Municipal Corporations Act, for the special representation of the Woolston Board on tlie Christchurch Board for the remainder of the present term of the latter board * 4 That the Minister of Internal Affairs be asked to take action in accordance with the foregoing resolution." 41 That the chairman and Mr Tapson be appointed a deputation to wait on the Christchurch City Council and the Christchurch Fire Board in order to place th* board's position before those bodies.*' It was decided to co-operate with the Christchurch Fire Board in asking the Minister of Internal Affairs to bring down amending legislation providing that the financial year for fire boards shall end on March 31 each year, the same as is provided in the Municipal Corporations Act, in the case of municipalities.
