THE LATE MRS C. WRENN.

By the death of Airs Caroline Wrenn, Sumner loses its oldest resident, the i deceased lady having first lived in the I borough ’in 1856. at which time there ! were only five houses erected.* Airs i Wrenn was born in England and with j her mother, Airs Card, came to New | Zealand, arriving at Lyttelton in 1856. ; They went to Sumner and stayed with ! a relative, Airs Day, .one of the pionj eers of Sumner, in 1872 Miss Card > married Air G. Terry and a ye*r later she established the well-known general store in Sumner and has resided there j ever since. She lost her husband iu ; 187.5 through the capsizing of a bout ' on the Sumner Bar. In 1883 she mar- ; ried Mr T. A. Wrcim, of Rangiora, i and with him carried on the general j srtore at. Sumner right up to the qwe- < ftent time. Although of a retiring disI position; the deceased lady always took j a keen interest in all matters affecting j the welfare of the borough, and her ’ kindly actions to new arrivals will he remembered by many of tho presentday residents. Although not enjoying the Ix'st of health, Mrs Wrenn worked very energetically throughout the whole of the war period and many of the Sumner boy., who went away witli the forces have reason to remember her kindness in the way of parcels and newspapers. She leaves a husband, two sons and two daughters. Mrs A. L. Mathews of Rawene, Aliss Wrenn of Sumner, Mr L. 'Wrenn and Air A. Wrenn of Christchurch to mourn their Joss. The funeral, which was of a private nature, took place at tho Bromley Cehietery yesterday afternoon.
