I/ON DON, October 29. | The Australian and New- Zealand Press- Association learns that tho position in the Near East has been further complicated by the Italian determination to follow France’s attempt to negotiate a separate peace with the Kemalists. to which end a mission ha® reached Angora from Rome. The diplomatic correspondent of the “ Daily .telegraph ” says: “V\ o arc entitled to the same measure of support as we accorded France on tho Rhine and Italy in the Alps and Adri- — atic. The task of defending the Allies’ original programme and British interests in the Near East will henceforth devolve upon our oun shoulders. France and Italy, by actual prospective undertakings at Angora, have deprived Britain of their effective military collaboration, and rendered impossible their mediation in the Turco-Greek conflict.”
