ALLEGED INDECENT ASSAULT.
v SCHOOLMASTER CHARGED. (Per Pre&b Association.) TIMARU, October 31. At Temuka to-day, before Mr Mosley. S.M.. David Thomas Todd, aged fifty-six, schoolmaster at Clandeboye, was charged with a criminal offence against and four indecent assaults on si school-girl aged between thirteen and fourteen, and similar charges in respect to another girl of the same age. between August 1 and October 6. Tho criminal assaults, the girls said, took place in a spare classroom while tho school was in session, and the indecent assaults when the girls were in class in school. Numerous boys and girls testified to frequent acts of indecency towards the girls in class. A medical witness testified that both girls had been criminally tampered with. After hearing evidence one charge of indecent assault in each case was withdrawn. Accused pleaded not guilty and was committed for trial on each of nine charges at the Supreme Court at Timaru in February next. Detective Abbot conducted tho case for the prosecution and Air W. 1). Campbell appeared for the accused. Bail, fixed at £'3oo and a surety of £3OO. w as forthcoming.
