THEATRE ROYAL.

NAZARETH HOUSE RECITAL. The Theatre Royal was well filled in all parts on Saturday night, when a programme of classical, vocal and instrumental items was given in aid of the Nazareth House Orphanage. The items were all received with manifest appreciation by the audience, the artists in practically every case being compelled to respond to insistent demands for encores. Rubinstein’s duet

“ Song of the Birds ” was pleasingly sung by Aliss Agnes Cunningham and Miss Nita Graham as the opening item. This was followed by the aria by Meyerbeer, “ Donnez, Donnez ” (“ I,e Prophet© ”), which was finely sung by Miss Kathleen Garven. The singer utilised her rich, full contralto voice to the utmost advantage and received a furore of applause. Air John Al’Grath also won favour immediately for his fine rendering of “Son of Aline” by Wallace. Mrs W. O. Campbell played Grieg’s 1 pianoforte solo “ Ballade,” Opus 24. Her technique and interpretation were excellent and on finishing she was warmly applauded. Aliss Kathleen Garven san" two more songs in the first part of the programme, “The Leaves and the Wind” (Leoni) and; “ Ideale ” (Tosti). The “ Jewel Song ” from “Faust” (Gounod) was delightfully sung by Aliss Agnes Cunningham. The second part was opened with two songs by Air John Al’Grath, “ Had a Horse ” and “ Shepherd, See Thy Horse’s Foaming Alane ” (Korbay) and the singer again earned the hearty appreciation of his audience. Aliss Agnes Cunningham and Aliss Nita Graham" contributed another delightful duet, “ Still as the Night ” (Gotze), which was much appreciated, and Aliss Kathleen Garven again earned favour for her exquisite singing of “Four by the Clock ” (Alallinson), and the aria “ Habanera ” from “Carmen ” (Bizet). Three difficult violin solos were charmingly interpreted by Aliss Paula Sclierek, the pieces being “ Hungarian Folk Song” (traditional), “Bagatelle” (Sinegaglia) and “Peasant Dance” (von Dittersdorf). A most delightful programme was concluded with two pianoforte solos by Aliss W. O. Campbell, prelude, “ The Hills of Anacapri ” and “Minstrels” (Debussy). The accompaniments were played by Aliss Nellie Hayward.
