SERIES OF COMPETITIONS. PROSE, POETRY AND PICTURES. A series of competitions has been arranged for this year’s Christmas number of the “Star.” The competitions will cater for the story writer, the poet (senior and junidr), and tho photographic and pen and ink artists. The subjects of the competitions, and tho prizep offered, are ns follow: 1. ORIGINAL STORY, not to exceed 2000 words. First prize £5 fis, second prize £3 3s. 2. ORIGINAL POEM, subject, “ Bridge of Remembrance.” First prize £3, second prize £2. 3. CHILDREN’S POEM, any subject, onen to children under 14. First prize £1 Is, second prize 15s. 4. PHOTOGRAPHIC STUDIES relating to Canterbury. Subjects may be cliOvSen from the seaside (yachting, boating, or bathing), the Avon, the Port Hills, the farming districts, or the mountains. The prints must be suitable for reproduction, and not less than postcard size. Prizes £2 10s, £2, £1 10s, £l. Others accepted for reproduction 7s Od each. 5. SPECIAL COMPETITION FOR ART SCHOOL STUDENTS—An original heading for the “Star ” Christmas Number, in line drawing. The awards will be made on pencil sketches, to be submitted by November 19, subject to the successful sketches being subsequently completed satisfactorily in ink for reproduction. First prize £3 3s, second prize £2 2s. Open to students at the Canterbury College School of Art. Tho awards in all competitions will be made by the Editor of the “ Star,” whose decision will bo final. Entries will be received up to December 3, except in connection with the special competition for Art School students.
