Colonel Samuel Wilson, Assistant Secretary of the Committee of Imperial Defence, has been, appointed Governor of Trinidad. Herr Sfcegerwald, speaking at Essen, stated that the present economic situation was Germany’s best ally, because it compelled England to pay more in uuemployijient doles than she would obtain from reparations. There was not a statesman in the world who believed that tho Versailles Treaty would last even fbr a, decade* The United Staten Senate, by seventy-one to seven votes, rejected Senator Reed’s amendment to the German peace treaty, which would have made it clear that the United States would be free from all obligations under the Versailles Treaty. A Washington message states the House of Representatives extended the Emergency Tariff Act until February 1, 1922.
