THIRD DAY’S PLAY. AMATEUR FIRST ROUND. Perfect weather was experienced for the third day of the New Zealand, coif championship mooting, which was con tin nod this morning, at' Shirley. The first round ot the amateur championship was commenced in the morning. Tho greens were n:.ucli drier and playing truer in consequence. A moderate breeze was blowing. The first round of the professionals' match set down for the morning was postponed. A MATE UK PLAY OFF. A play off in the morning, over four holes, of tbe tie in. the qualifying rounds tor the amateur championship resulted as follows: B. B. Wood (Christchurch) . . . 1§ . L. A bogey handicap is being afternoon, ns well as the professionals’ foursome instituted at the eleventh hour by the Golf Council.
