N.Z. GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS.
E. S. DOUCLAS W3MS OPEN EVENT. YESTERDAY’S PLAY. The New Zealand golf championship meeting was continued at the Shirley links yesterday. E. S. Douglas, the Miramar professional, won the open championship with a good lead, although hus third round put him in a dangerous position. The Christchurch Club’s No. 1 team won the O’Rorke Vase- The first two qualifying rounds of the amateur championship ot New Zealand were played concurrently with the last two rounds of the open championship. The O’Rorke Vase competition was concurrent with the last round of the championship. Fine weather gave the links a chance to regain their condition, and the greens were considerably faster than they were on the previous day. although competitors who got in the rough gen erally had a bad time. Given a continuance of fine weather, the links should be in really good order to-day. Results:—
OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP OF NEW ZEALAND. Four Rounds of Stroke Play, open to amateurs and professionals. Prizes: First, £26; second, £10; third, £5.
AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP OF NEW ZEALAND. Open to members of recognised golf clubs in or out of the Dominion. Two qualifying rounds (stroke play), tho thirty-two players returning the best scores to play off by match play over 18 holes; final, 36 holes.

The New Zealand Golf Council has offered a prize of £lO for a professional foursome match, in which all the professionals present at the tournament will take part. BALANCE OF PROGRAMME. The balance of the programme of the meeting is as follows: To-morrow—Morning; Second round of play-off in the amateur championship, and second round of the professionals’ match, noon: Bogey handicap. Friday—Morning: Third round of amateur championship and third round of the professionals’ match Afternoon: Semifinal of amateur championship, semi-final of professionals’ match and stroke handicap. Saturday—Final of amateur championship and final of professionals’ match. NOTES ON THE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP. In tho afternoon Douglas made a good recovery, going out in 37 and returning in 36, as against Wood’s 42 each way. Douglas's afternoon card was as follows : Out: 364 4 4435 4—37 In: 3 4 5 4 5 6 4 2 4—36 C. B- Wight (St Clair) did the round, playing beside the Napier professional. Clements, in 76—39 out and 37 in. He bettered bogey at three holes and was only worse at two holes, by one stroke at each. C. Bid well (Wairarapa) completed the 1 round in 77. He took 38 to go out, and returned in 39, bettering boe-ey at tho 1 second, fifth, seventh and fourteenth holes —at the fifth by two. C. A. Seymour (Christchurch), who went out in 38 and returned in tho same, managed to beat bogey thrice, and exceeded it only once. Brookr played good golf in the second round until he reached the fourth holo, where he encountered trouble and took three putts. He spent two strokes in getting wear at the fifth hole, near which he goA under a tree. At the, ninth hole ho tapped his drive and loßt his ball. Hie first drive landed on the green, but he had to take four putts. At the ninth be landed in the rough, and it cost U?i eight to hole rut.
