The King in a message to President Harding says:— T wish to express to your Congress and to the people of the United States tho warm appreciation of this country for tho tribute you are paying our Unknown "Warrior. Your gift of a modal of honour to a British
comrade in arms is a gesture, of friendly sympathy and goodwill, which we shall not forget. On Armistice Day British representatives in Washington will join you in the ceremony to be held in honour of the splendid record of your troops. I greatly wish on that occasion to confer upon vour Unknown Warrior our highest decoration for valour, the Victoria Cross, which never previously has been bestowed upon a subject of another State. I also send heartfelt good wishes for the great international conference, which will open on that day through your wise initiative.
