AMONGST THE CANINES, (By “ (mE¥HOU>TX>*) The secretary of the Canterbury Kec« nel Club has received several letter* from Dunedin and Wellington fanciers asking to have accommodation found for them prior to the annuel show in November. Good entries are expected from both these oentres, and it is said that Wellington has some very fine Airedale Terriers, which one fancier up there describes as “ hot coffee." Perhaps local fanciers can produce a "coffee cooler." A lady visitor to Christchurch had » valuable Airedale dog poisoned in the park recently. Tt would be wise for breeders not to take dogs into the park unless they arj* led. Mr P- J. Williams has had a litter of six smooth fox terriers, all dogs, from Prince ex Peggy. Preparations for the annual are well in hand, and the schedule® bare now been issued. Judging by the number of classes, the show should pr<yv« h success. On looking through the schedule. on« is by ths large number of special prises which have been donated, there being nearly a hundred. The cocker spaniel class is divided into six sections—black. other th»n black. black or any colour. field spaniels. Irish water spaniels, and Clumber spaniels. There aro also ten special prises attached to this class. The section for working sheepdogs, for which six specials have been donated. is divided into three classes--rough-coated dog or bitch, open, smooth-coated dog or bitch, open, bearded dog or.hitch, operu The exhibits must be dogs in regular work amongst sheep, and subject to'a trial if required. Setters. English. Irish. Gordon and iwiy variety, have «x specials attached, including one for the beat setter to the show. Retrievers are divided into two classes, dogs or bitches, puppy, dogs or bitches, open. Collies are in three classes, dogs or hitches, novice, dogs or bitches puppy, dogs or bitches open. The New Zeeland Airedale Terrier Olub has donated two cups and four riub trophies for competition among members of the club. Over and above this &iere are five special prizes. Aire dale classes on the schedule number nine. There are also classes for Irish, Fox ('smooth'). Fox (wire). Fox (smooth or wire). Skve, Scotch. Bull and anv variety Toy Terriers. "W orking Gun. Dogs are divided into two classes, any variety. Setter, Pointer or Retriever, dog or bitch, and any variety Spaniel, dog or bitch. Thre* special prizes accompany this section. St Bernards. Newfoundlands. Great Danes. Deerhounds, Borzois, Greyhounds, Harriers, Pointers. Esquimaux. Bulldogs and Pug* are also catered for. Pomeranians also appear ofi the schedule divided up as follows:—Black, under 71h : any other colour, under 71b ; black, over 71b : any other colour, oi er 71b: black or any colour, any weight. Three special prizes are donated for Pomeranians. Variety classes (open) number fire. Any breed, sporting dog or bitch, excepting terriers; any breed, non-sport-ing dog or bitch, excepting toysj any breed, terrier, dog or bitch ; any breed tov, dog or bitch : any breed, dog or bitch, not scheduled. There is also a children’s rlasg. any breed of dog or bitch, the property r»f * child under fourteen years. The attention of fanciers is draw n to the new style of entry form now in use. Only one dog may he. entered on each form. Extra forms can be bad on request from the secretary, Mr* F E. Biltcliff. with whom all entries r]o«o on October 22.
