The State Department says that the Government is gratified that the British Dominions will be represented at the Washington Conference. The Department states that the American Government has tried throughout the negotiations to make it for British Dominions to Ixi represented. The United States could not directly suggest to the British Government that the Dominions should bo represented, because tho question was not the official concern of the country, but the American Government did suggest that Britain’s delegation should number five to seven, with a view of allowing sufficient room for Dominion representation. The State Department denies that America slammed the door against Australian or other Pacific Dominion representation, as Mr Hughes is said to have alleged in the Australian Parliament. NEW ZEALAND’S REPRESENTATIVE. SIR F. BELL TO BE SELECTED. (Special to the “ Star.”) PARLIAMENT BUILDINGS, Oct. 8. It is reported that Cabinet is likely to consider this week-end the appointment of a representative for New Zealand at the Washington Disarmament Conference. It is believed that the Dominion will accept direct representation owing to the growing importance of the Pacific problem and that Sir Francis Bell, leader of the Legislative Council, who postponed his English trip to fill the acting-Prime Minister’s position during Mr Massey’s absence, will be selected to go to
