DEATH TRAPS.

TO THIS EDITOR, Sir,—The shocking danger which a glass verandah constitutes in caso of fire has once more been fatally demonstrated. Oil the last occasion locally it ■was at the Silver Grid fire, when the menace of this type of verandah was fully exposed. They should not bo authorised for modern buildings, and if Xioesible should lie replaced in older ones. Only a few minutes ago I was looking at one of these verandahs, which has a wooden “corduroy” lire escape. The alleged escape was out of line, and I am certain t'nalS people who tried to walk it would i>lunge through the verandah. There is room for frequent inspection of these verandahs and their supposed escapes.—l am, SAFETY’ FIRST.
