LOCAL AND GENERAL.
The Belgian Government has asked the New Zealand Government to convey to associations of the Press of New Zealand an invitation to appoint a delegate to attend a conference to be held at Brussels on October 9, 1921, in order to promote the creation of a new international union of the World’s Press. In a covering letter the Consul for Belgium says that apparently there is no hope for tho nomination of a New Zealand delegate unless a representative in London is appointed by cablegram. The provision of a hall for Redcliffs suitable for holding public functions is the aim of the Redcliffs Hall Committee. At a meeting on Tuesday evening, over which Mr A. Holden presided, it was decided to go on with a scheme suggested by the Minister of Education, the Hon C. J. Parr, on a recent visit to Christchurch. The Minister’s idea was that schools in small districts should be built in such a manner aa to provide a hall suitable for public functions. The scheme of the Redcliffs Hall Oommittee is to make nn alteration to the large room of the school at an estimated cost of £6OO. Of this amount the residents would eubscrib© £3OO and the Government subsidise it equally. A public meeting is to be called shortly to further the project, it beincr mentioned at the meeting that already nearly £l3O was in sight.
