LOCAL AND GENERAL.
A cheque for £2 has been received by the Fire Brigade from Mr C. E. Boon, baker and pastrycook, in recognition of the brigade’s services at a recent outbreak of fire on his premises. A Press Association telegram states that the regulations under the Inspection of Machinery Act, 1908, relating to examination of engine-drivers, have been amended by altering the ao;e at which candidates for certificates of competency for .traction and locomotive engine-drivers mav he examined to at least twenty-one years. On Tuesday evening at the Rugby Street Schoolroom a well-attended meeting was held in furtherance of the interests of the home mission fund of the Methodist Church. The chair was occupied by the Rev J. Napier Milne. A resume of the operations of the fund was presented by the local secretary, Air A. I>. Hassall, and an address replete with interest on the necessity of generous supxiort was given by the Rev Percy Paris. We produce portraiture that pleases because of its naturalness.
