Hall, alias James, a self-styled landowner. was charged with fraud at Cardiff involving £40,000. It was alleged that Hall ran a turf syndicate, promising investors 12 per cent interest weekly. Money poured in in thousands. Clients received interest for two months. Then Hall disappeared, after withdrawing £16.000 in notes. Hall’s typist said that his clients include clergymen, solicitors, business men and police officers. She had to destroy ail correspondence daily.
