At a meeting of the Christchurch Butchers’ Industrial Union of Km plovers, held on Tuesday evening, Mr It. Jones, who in addition to having been a member of the union for about twenty years had acted as honorary secretary for a number of years, until his resignation recently, was presented with a substantial cheque to purchase a suitable memento as some recognition of his services. The president, Mr J. H. Shaw, in making the presentation, expressed the contributors’ feeling of obligation to Mr Jones who had served them well in an honorary capacity. Mr John Goughian and his family wer * fa re welled by residents of Hilton and surrounding districts recently at «i public gathering. The chairman (Mr H M. Verrall) said that they were one of the most respected and popular families in the district, and everyone would he sorry that Mr Goughian had sold his farm, which had belonged to the Goughian family for over fifty years. Messrs F. Charles, Fletcher, Buckley, Sheldon, M. Charles. I>. E. Lewis and many others spoke, all referring to the happy and genial disposition of Mr Goughian and to the many good qualities of the family. Handsome presentations were made to the guests of honour.
