DAMAGES AWARDED

IN CHIROPRACTIC CASE. The case in which Joseph Wright, chiropractor, Christchurch, was sued by Thomas Lyons, a mariner, iu the Supremo Court on Thursday, for the sum of £BBS, was concluded yesterday afternoon. Plaintiff said that Wright guaranteed to cure him of cancer, which he contracted about April, 1919, in two months, if lie attended daily. Lyons was induced to leave bis employment and place himself in Wright’s hands for daily treatment. Plaintiff claimed a refund of fees paid for eighty treatments, and claimed for loss of wages and expenses, and general damages, which were set down at £750. The case was heard before bis Honor Mr Justice Hcrdman, and a special jury of twelve. Mr O. T. J. Alpers. with him Mr R. A. Cuthbert, appeared for plaintiff, and Mr C. S. Thomas, with him Mr R. Twyneham, for defendant. The jury, after an hour's deliberation, returned with a verdict that there had been no contract to cure, that there had been negligent treatment, and that plaintiff was entitled to £SO general damages and £42 special damWhen his Honor asked Mr Alpers to move for judgment the latter said he would like to take four days to consider tho question. He did not wish to debar himself from moving for a new trial, on the ground of improper damages His Honor said that Air Alpers could move for judgment at once, and would be at liberty to move for a new trial later. Air Alpers then moved for judgment for tli© sum found by the jury, £92, and his Honor gave judgment for plaintiff for that sum. itness’s expenses and disbursements to be settled by the Registrar. He gave a certificate for a special jury, and also certified for a second day at fifteen guineas, and the second counsel at four guineas a day.
