CANTERBURY RUGBY UNION. MEETING OP MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. The Management Committee of tie Canterbury Rugby Football Union met. last night; present—Messrs S. F. Wilson (chairman), E. E. Boag, C. S. M’Cully, F. D. Kestoven, W. Maxwell, R. H. North, C. W. Allard, A. M’Phail, R. W. Britton, A. Dey, A Duggan, R. Beattie and H. Davis. ITio Sydenham Football Club asked for permission for two Third Grade teams to travel-to Ashburton to take part i.n a seven-' a-side tournament on Saturday. .A, similar application was received from the Christchurch Club for Second and Third Grade teams to travel to Ashburton, and from tho Marist Bros. Club for a Junior „a.nd a Third Grade toam to travel. Permission v. as granted subject to the managers of the teams being approved. Tt was else decided to secure a copy for tho union as a, record of the match, and to tend one each to tho manager and captain of the Springbo*ks* team. NEW SOUTH WALES v. NEW ZEALAND. The secretary of the New Zealand Rugby Union wrote stating that- members of the New Zealand team selected to play ngainr-t New South Wales at Lancaster Park on September 3 were required to assemble in Christchurch on the Saturday or Sunday preceding the match. The New South Wales team would arrive on September 1, from the West Coast, and would leave for Wellington on Monday, September 5. The official strength of the team was twenty-seven,, but as Ur understood three supporters were travelling with them, accommodation should be arranged for thirty. The secretary (Mr T. O. M’Gillivray) said he had made arrangements for the accommodation "of the team. Messrs North, M'Cully, Allard," Davis, M'Phail and the chairman were appointed a sub-committee to make arrangements for the entertainment of the teams. After considerable discussion it was d?cidecl that all the seats in the stands should b? open for reservation for tho match. According to the instructions from the New Zealand Union, the charges of admission were fixed at, -2s admission to Hie ground, end. 3s additional to tho stand: children half price admission to the ground, but no reduction for stand scats. Tho fee for reserving seats was fixed at Is. and the price for the improvised scats around the fence inside the oval at 3s. Tt was agreed that, the match should begin at 2.45 p.m. The question of arranging a curtain-raiser was left, to the Competitions Committee. Tho secretary of tlm New Zealand Union wrote stating that no contracts bad been made for any rights (photographic, sweets advertising or sole of programmesi in connection with the tear of the New South Wales team. INTER-SCHOOLS TOURNAMENT. A letter was received from MvW. M. Stewart, coach of the Christchurclx Boys’ High School first fifteen, a.sking for approval of the. following programme for the inter-schools tournament t-o be played in Christchurch next week : August. *29 —1.30 p.m., Otago v Tiiua.ru; 3 p.m., Christchurch v. Southland. September 1—1.30 p.m., losers play ; 3 p.m., winners play. The programme- was approved. MOASCAR CUP GAMES. A telegram was received from tbe New Zealand Rugby Union stating that the final ~r the North Island competition for the Moascar Cup would be played on September 3. and that, the inter-island final would bo played at Christchurch on September 7. The c.lia.irma.n stated that the final for tbe South Island had to be played between the Otago and Christchurch Boys’ High Schools, and it was possible, according to the pro-tba-t Christchurch and Otago would not meet. Mr North said that. Otago had agreed that, if they were beaten in their first match of ' the schools tournament they' would with- } draw from the Cup. The chairman said that the union did riot know that officially. Otago and Christchurch would have to be prepared to meet before the date for tho inter-island final of the Cup. H«* moved that the teams should be informed ti that effect. The motion was carried. MATCHES BY DEFAULT. A letter was received from the Christchurch Boys’ High School Club protesting against tL’*» decision of the committee to give defaults against the- school’s Third and Fourth Grade teams in their competition fixtures set down for the Saturday thev were plavrng teams from the Waita.ki Bovs’ High School at Oa.maru. The club understood that tba committee had arranged for another team ou tour to play a- competition match later. Mr Dey said that- the High School Club bad merely informed the. Competitions Committee that it. could not play on the Saturday in question, and bad not asked that arrangements should be made to play the competition matches later. Therefore the committee had no other option than to’let the matches go by default. With regard to the St Andrew’s College team, which was the other team referred to in the letter, this club had stated that the team would not" travel j if its competition match went by default. Mr North said he thought the High School Club understood that the fact that the union gare its teams permission to travel carried with it permission to play the competition matches later. Air Dey said that if High School could now arrange to play the matches later the committee would not object. Mr M’Pliail moved that, the previous motion letting the matches go by default should bo rescinded. The chairman said he wc-r.ld not permit the motion unless it was carried rnaniraouslv. There were one or two dissenting voices, and the motion was accordingly not accepted. It wns decided to supply the High School Club with full details of the position. SATURDAY’S 3LATCHES. THE ASSOCIATION GAME. WEST COAST v. CANTERBURY. The match between the West Coast and Canterbury representative Association football teams has been fixed to take place at English Park. The West Coast, team is said to include several good players from the Home /Country. The team to represent Canterbury will be practically the same as that which defeated Otago last Saturday. The Mayor of St Kilria staled that it was the first “Soccer” match he had Been, and that he was thoroughly impressed and delighted with it. The Mayor of Dunedin expressed himself in a similar manner. The proceed? wili bo devoted to the fund? of the association for the purpose of maintenance and upkeep of English Park, which grounds are invested in the people of Christchurch.
