SPIRIT MESSAGES.
FROM LORD KITCHENER. A STRANGE STORY. I3y Telegraph—Pres* Association—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cab> Association. (Received August 19, 11.25 a.m.) LONDON. August IS. ei Scrutator,” in the ‘‘Truth,” writes that he investigated a strange current story that spirit messages from Lord Kitchener helped to win the war. It appears that the wife of a British officer states that during 1918, her son. who was killed in action, appeared to her and demanded a pencil. fie commenced a series of weekly letters ‘lasting for months, purporting to emanate from Lord Kitchener, and giving information regarding the disposition of the German lines. He also requested that iliev bo sent to Ear) Haig. An officer friend showed the letters to two brigadier-generals, who took them to headquarters, where Earl Haig agreed to examine them. The communications proved to he quite useless, Earl Haig stating that ho was certain such rubbish never emanated from Lord Kitchener, even if it came from the spirit world. “Truth” is convinced that the recipient supposed the mos-t-ages were true, and acted in perfect faith.
