* The golden wedding of Mr and Airs R. Hayes was celebrated on August <3, a large number of relatives and friends assembling at their residence in Selwyn Street, Spreydon. to tender their congratulations on their good fortune in celebrating their happy event. Air and Airs Hayes were married on August < , 1871, at Westminster, Barkway, by the Rev Baltiscombe, and came to New Zealand in the ship “Peter Denpy ’’ in July., 1874. After spending thirtyseven years in Herbert, Otago, they cam© io settle in Christchurch. *AIr and' Airs Hayes have brought up toil children, the majority of whom are married and settled in various parts of the country. The yoijngest son, Sergeant Bert Hayes, served for four and a half years in the Second Field Company Engineers iri Gallipoli, Egypt i and France. There are fourteen 1 grandchildren. Mr and Mrs Hayes are still hale and hearty„
