“ We haven’t discovered how far it is profitable in schools to continue the same class of work for a complete htfur or even three-quarters of an hour.” Professor J. Shelley said in an address last night. “In many cases it would he more profitable to continue for twenty or twenty-five minutes and then have a break, turning the children’s minds to something else, or having an actual rest for five minutes. I’ll guarantee more work will be done in that way than by under pressure.” The regular meeting of the Washington Lodge, 1.0.0. F., was held on Monday, July 1. in the 1.0.0. F. lodge room, Selwyn Street, Brother C. J. Forbes presiding over a fair attendance of members and visitors. Sick pay was passed for payment. The balancesheet and report, which were read and adopted, showed that the lodge passed through a successful term, there being /orty-five members and over thirty candidates proposed to come forward. A fortnight ago the lodge held a social evening to members and their wives. The lodge intend to run social evenings onc9 a mouth until October.
