LATE SPORTING.

TRAINING NOTES, RIOCARTON. The .weather was pleasant while training operations were in progress at Riecarton this mornffig, and there was a large crowd of visitors to watch proceedings, which were of an interesting character. The outside of the course proper was open for fast work, and, though all the horses who used it were not sent} at top speed, some smart performances were witnessed. Fabrinad© and Heiro opened proceedings by covering seven furlongs in lmin 34sec. They carried about even, ■weights, and Hiero was the better of the pair at the finish. Gamecock was given a useful gallop over a mile and a quarter, the last nine furlongs taking 2min Bsec. Mill o’ Govvrie and Gladful jumped two hurdles in smart style. .Macduff and Headlong sprinted five furlongs in lmin Bsec, with Macduff going very comfortably at the end. A\ aimai went twice round the steeplechase fences. He missed the fence at the top of the straight each time, in favour of the burdie, but otherwise jumped well. Vagabond was going better than Gladful at the end of a mile, which they covered in lmin oOsec. K.areao moved freely in a lialf-mile sprint, which occupied 53sec. Heathersprig and Mazama got to the end of six furlongs in lmin 18 4-ssec. Heathersprig was going particularly well at the end of a verv attractive gallop. Coroglen went twice round at a useful pace, brushing down the straight 'each tune. Cantoris got through strong work, being at liis top speed. Mill o’ Cowrie reeled off seven furlongs in lmin 34sec, finishing well. Royal Star was going on nicely, a ongside Caverock, at the end of six furlongs, which they covered in lmin 2 (/see. 1 igritiya and Tigerland did strong pacing over a couple of circuits. _ Tod us and a companion covered six furlongs in lmin 20sec, Bonny Mac and a mate taking lmin 21sec. Demonstrate and Red Gown did a working gallop over six furlongs, Lord Ashlea getting through a similar task alone. Some Kid easily beat Mustard Pot over seven furlongs in lmin 34sec. j hey ran the first part of the journey i«t,. but were stopping at the finish. Ihe performance of Mustard Pot was disappointing. Warlike,.Clean Sweep and Onslaught v ere associated over seven furlongs, but they were not out to make time. Alteration jumped two hurdles, but it was not a high-class exhibition, as he got* too close to the second obstacle. He afterwards covered sjx furlongs with Hallow in lmin 21 3-ssec. Link Up occupied 54 2-ssec over the last lour of five furlongs. \ ice Regal was schooled over the steeplechase fences, giving a satisfactory display. Pino Arch' and Treso were .companions in a six-furlong spin, the former being an easy winner in lmin 19 3-ssec. Gang Avra and Moutoa Ivanova finished on terms at the end of a gallop over a mile. Multive and Demagogue ran a mile in lmin 51sec, with both going well at the finish. Endure and Kawliero were given a working gallop over a mile, Endure finishing in front. Lochella, looking in good health, was given useful work over a couple of circuits. Crib was given usefuj work, and afterwards went once round the steeplechase fences, jumping well. Fire Eater sprinted half a mile in 55 2-ssec. Manawapango started out for a school over the big country. He bumped his rider off at the first of the double, but subsequently completed a round safely. Bandy, Innisfallen, Master Boris, Silverlea and the St Swithin gelding were associated over a circuit of the schooling hurdles. Master Boris finished well clear of Innisfallen and Bandy, the cither two being pulled up before reaching the last hurdle. Thrace and Kauri King did a round over the hurdles. Kauri King had to be ridden out to keep with liis mate at the finish. Counter Attack occupied 55sec over half a mile. Coalition jumped a circuit of the big fences. The pace was sound, and he gave a good exhibition. He afterwards worked on the flat. r |*elamon shaped well while jumpingtwo hurdles. Ready followed in a similar task. IV ill Oakland gave Petunia a good start and a beating over half a mile, which he reeled off in S(H 3-ssec. Arch Salute occupied 53 3-ssec over ' half a mile. Brackenfield covering the same ground in 52 2-osee. Grim Joke and High Heels were associated in a spin over six furlongs, which they covered in lmin 26sec. ADDINGTON. The track at Addington, though still far from fast, was in much better condition than 'yesterday, the wind drying it considerably. There were a lot of horses working, but nothing of an exceptional character was witnessed, the dead track being responsible for the slow times. All the work was done well nut from the rails. Lady Esma, in harness, went a mile and a half, but her. showing was not at all good. She looks as though, if sent at top speed, she would soon leave her feet. Imperial Fan, who looks very well, covered a mile in saddle in a pleasing manner. Greta, in harness, and Lady Pointer, in saddle, went a mile well, the harness mare showing to best advantage. (E-eta went on for an extra quarter, pacing in her best style. Agathos looks very well, and is pair- , ing in better form than usual. He was restricted to three-quarter speed over a little more than a mile and a half. Kola Boy trotted several circuits at a useful speed. Tlie trotter looks well, and when speeded up over short sections lio made no mistakes. The two southerners, Matty’s Boy i and Bell Fashion, both in saddle, went a fast mile, being eased up a little at i the finish. Gladeye worked a mile in harness in fair style. Koraki and Trugani, both trotting well, went about a mile and a half. Miss Patty joined thorn for a short distance at the end and then went on by herself. The small trotter looks very well and did her work satisfactorily. Hiram Galindo did not pace at all well over a journey of a mile. Afterwards, when sprinted, he also worked badly. Gladiola, in harness, went a mile and a half, but she seemed to be labouring and she failed to pace with much free* do m. .Marvin Junior, in saddle, and Earl Derby, in harness, covered a mile and a half at a sound speed. The saddle horse broke twice, but he was speedily got to his gait again and had the better hf i.h,, contest.

Bundaberg covered a mile and a half in fair style, "Whispering Willie -went a little more than a mile and a half, trotting really well. He was not sent at top speed, but ho bears a well trained appearance and is evidently very fit. As usual, Sherwood and Trix Pointer worked together. Their task was a mile journey, and although neither was put hard at it they did a useful work out. Wonderland, who looks well, was sprinted several quarters and paced in fine style. Locanda Dillon and Frank Tracey covered a mile together in harness, but neither was thoroughly extended. Lewis M’Kinney, in saddle, and Coil, in harness, went a little more than a mile, both horses being eased at the finish. Peter Timmerman, in harness, went a couple of rounds, but he did not trot at all well. Platinum, who does not look too fit, showed a good deal of speed when sprinted, although he went to a break. He was given useful work. Silver Nut, without the hopples, worked further than a mile and a quarter, pacing freely. He looks well, but does not appear to be thoroughly wound UPGav Wilkes, in saddle, did several rounds at a useful speed, trotting kindly all the way. Peace was sent a mile and a half, hut did not impress the largo crowd who watched the proceedings. NEW BRIGHTON. The New Brighton track was in failorder this morning, and some interesting work was done by horses with engagements at the Metropolitan. Trotting Club’s meeting. Nelson Derby and Saints’ Bell were companions in a spin over a mile and a half. Nelson Derby, on the outside, drew right away over the last quarter and finished in great style. It was a line effort, which gained the North Islander many admirers. Gleaming covered a mile by himself, but he did not go pleasingly. Eley covered a mile, but was not asked to do his best. Coleimt, who was sent a fast mile the previous day, was restricted to useful work. He is very well. Elite, a visitor from the West Coast, moved freely in a useful task. Vice Admiral, Willie Lincoln and Partner, all of whom are in good health, were worked steadily without the straps. Sympathy was restricted to threequarter pace work. Homeleigh Dick moved in determined fashion over two miles. The Australian trotter is very fit. Arran Lad broke several times, and his effort was very disappointing. Our Goldie, who is in great heart, pleased greatly in a work out over a mile and a half. John Dillon made his appearance on the track, blit he was kept to steady work. J. N. Clarke’s team, with the exception of Willie Lincoln, did only jogging exercise.
