The Poplar Borough Council is appealing against the attachment writs. (A message received on Monday states: The Chief Justice has issued a writ of attachment against members of tty© Poplar Borough Council, for refusing to strike a rate to meet the London County Council’s levy of about £40,000. Several members of the council expressed their willingness to strike the rate, but the Labour majority outvoted them. The majority are opposed to the levy as a protest against the burdens placed on poor people. Defendants have been given fourteen days to comply with the order.)
