MEMORIAL IN LONDON: LONDON. July 20. Though Australia contributed only £l3O to the total of £7OO for the Camel Corps memorial 011 the Thames Embankment, }t will serve as a permanent tribute to Australia in London. Jt consists of the statue of a Digger mounted on a camel with bas-reliefs of Australians going into action and an Australian officer with a camel, and the names of actions and the names of those killed ortv the base. The. sculptor is Cecil Broun, who Eerved in Palestine. Tho memorial was unveiled before a largely Australasian gathering. General Chapman paid a tribute to the valour and initiative of the Australasian troops. Mr Hughes, while bowing and placing a wreath on the memorial, said : “ In the name of Australia I do honour and homage to tho 'memory of tho glorious dead.” Mr Massey spoke, briefly, and on behalf of New Zealand placed a wreath yn the memorial;.
