At last night’s meeting of the Riccarton Borough Council a motion of sympathy was passed with Councillor Charters, who is at present indisposed. A presentation was made yesterday afternoon at the Sydenham Police Station on behalf of the business people of the district to Sergeant T. Cassidy, who has been transferred to Rangiora. The presentation, which consisted of a travelling bag and rug for Sergeant Cassidy and a morocco hand-bag for Mrs Cassidy, was made by Air E. L. Al’Keown. Several of those present made eulogistic reference to Sergeant Cassidy’s work. Later in the afternoon the business people of Sydenham south presented Sergeant Cassidy with a safety razor and tobacco pouch, and Mrs Cassidy with a lady’s handbag.
