AT HOME

The At Home given by Airs Thacker yesterday afternoon at the Art Gallery to welcome Aliss Dorothea Spinney on her return visit to Christchurch, was most enjoyable and was very largely attended. The permanent gallery is always a good background for social functions and -the many pots of cmerintiaus added colour. The ATayoress received her guests at the entrance, introduced them to Aliss Spinney, who

renewed many pleasant acquaintanceships. Airs Thacker wore a becoming costume of brown velvet made in Russian tunic fashion, bordered with mink, and a brown hat turned smartly back from the face with massed pink roses

and draped with a chenille veil, falling on the right side. Aliss Spinney’s artistic gown was much admired. It vva?: fashioned of peacock green velvet, with panels of oriental brocade lei into the heir, of the skirt. A jumper blouse, in which the same russet and fawny shades wore repeated, was tied at the side with long ends. A fascinating bead neck ©bain completed the colour scheme. With this Aliss Spinney wore a black velvet picture, hat and a handsome brown fur cloak. Miss Macdonald’s trio orchestra played selections whilst tea was served. Airs Horne sang one of East Hope Martin's little songs charmingly. Dr Pair man and AJiss Nottingham also sang. Bv special request Miss Spinney spoke of her experiences and her impressions of America. I>r Thacker moved a vote of thanks for her interesting address, and it was carried by acclamation.
