ENTRANCE FEES FOR SPRINGBOKS’ TOUR. COMPLAINT BY RUGBY UNION. The minimum charges fixed by the Rugby Union for admittance to matches against the South African Rugby team were the subject of complaint by members of ihe Canterbury Rugby Union last night. The.«e charges are a minimum of 2s for each adult for admission to the ground, and a minimum of 3s or upwards additional for a seat in the grandstand. “Too hot” was tne comment of several members when the charges were read by the chairman. The question arose on recemt of a telegram from the Otago Association asking what Canterbury proposed to charge for its match against the South Africans. The nresident (Mr S. F. Wilson) remarked that Canterbury would charge accordin'- to instructions, adding that Otago might intend to protest against the additional charge of 3s for the stand. The tour would probably cost £13,000, and the assembly of New Zealand teams might cost £ISOO. He did not uphold the charges, but when the last British team came out the charges were as liivh as Bs. It was resolved to reply to the Otago Union in terms of the chairman’s statement, and also to ask the New Zealand Union for further information regarding the gate charges. In connection with the New Zealand Union’s statement that it would bear part of the cost of ent or t Q ini"' r . it was resolved to express the opinion that the whole of the cost of entertaining ought to be borne by the New Zealand Union, as it was taking the whole of the proceeds.
