DR TRUBY KING,

ADDRESS AT RANGIORA. Yesterday afternoon Dr Trubv King, C.M.G., Director of Cliiid Welfare, visited Rangiora and received a very warm ■welcome from the members of the local branch of the Plunkct Society, and from a, crowded meeting in the Municipal Council Chambers, where he was accorded a civic reception. The Mayor (Mr F. B. Lane), who presided, in extending to Dr Truby King a cordial welcome from the townspeople, said it was a great pleasure to have tlio privilege of doing honour to one so worthy of it. His Majesty the King had recognised Dr King’s valuable services to the Empire, and as a direct result of his work the Government bad established .the .Department of Child Welfare and appointed him Director. it would be safe to say that the doctor had been the means of saving more valuable lives for the nation than any other individual, and he was certainly deserving of all the honours they could give him. It was satisfactory to note that the Hospital Board was taking steps to establish a maternity home in Rangiorn. Dr Truby King, who was received with applause, expressed his sincei-e thanks for the hearty welcome accorded him. ,Ho then went on to give an address on tin* worl# of the Blanket Society, in the course of which he gave some valuable information and instruction on the care of infants. Mr David Jones, M.P., moved a vote of thanks to Dr Truby King for liis ■visit and address. The motion was carried with applause, after being seconded by Dr L. B. Burnett, who stressed the need of

a thoroughly up-to-date nursing home in Rangiora as a centre, and advised those present to urge the Hospital Board to establish such without delay.

At the close of the meeting the P.lunket Society Committee entertained Dr Truby King and those who accompanied him from the city at afternoon tea.
