MISSING STEAMER,
NO NEWS OF CANASTOTA. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, June 2?. The Minis.er of Defence has received the following telegram from the Common wealth Naval Board : “ It is proposed to take no naval action as regards the search for the Canastota. A broadcast message has been sent to all ships asking them to keep a good look-out for her. Special sear h seems unnecessary, owing to the number of ships likely to be on or near her irack.” The Kaiwarra, which arrived in pert to-day from Pori Kcr-bia, had nothi g to report regarding tho Canastota. The Maraina, which left Svdney last Saturday evening for Wellinvtou. is deviating from her course slightly to keep a for the missing vessel.
The spurious half-crowns which were reported some time ago in Ashburton have made a reappearance, one of them having been passed this week. Two were passed in April, when they were last reported.
