A Persian-Afghan treaty has been concluded. It provides for the exchange of diplomatic and consular representatives A trade treaty is anticipated. The Acting-Premier announced in the course of a debate in the South African Parliament on native churches in the Union, and how far they are associated with political propaganda, that there are no fewer than one hundred and six native denominations, entirely under native control. He added that the Government was instituting an inquiry into the; Bulhoek affair and the origin of the Israelite movement.
Miss M- Jellicoe. aged ninety, has died at Southampton. She was an aunt of Admiral Jellicoe. Miss Catherine Jellicoe, her sister, celebrated her hundredth birthday in September.
The Paris newspaper “ lie Temps ” says that King Alfonso of Spain is visiting London to obtain Britain’s help against France in regard to Tangier.
Preliminary results of the census show that the European ponulation of the South African Union is 1,528,424.
The Italian Chamber of Deputies carried a motion of confidence in Signor Giolitti’s foreign policv by 234 votes to 200. He obtained a large majority on internal policy. A later message states that despite the votes of confidence the Cabinet has resigned.
