TELLING THE TIME,

Few mothers realise that telling the time is an extremelv important factor ri tho education of any child (states an English writer). The* reason that so many people arc unpunctual is < hieflv because they have not been taught, the value of time in their youth. A clock - a dependable one- ought to be in every nursery, ami children should be encouraged to watch and study it. The simplest method of touching them to tell the time is to divide the clock face, metaphorically, into four quarters. Next, bv way of illustration, cut an apple into four parts. Then, pointing to the clock, explain the half, quarter and three-quarters of an hour. Even the children who cannot count

will soon grasp this, and having got so far. it is quite easy to teach them the divison of minutes. A child taught m this way quicklv comes to regard it as a game, and thoroughly enjoys “ telling the time.”

Tempi the Invalid.—Everything that is offered to an invalid should be of the most attractive and tempting description. The invalid tray should he -overed with the snowiest of linen, provided with the prettiest of china, which should be changed from time to time, and, if possible, a glass of flowers should also accompany each tnoal, but these must he perfectly fresh. As soon as they show signs of drooping they should" he removed from the room. When a patient mu*t be fed when lying down, and no feeding-cup with a spout is available, a good substitute may be found in a small earthenware teapot.
