IRISH QUESTION,

AMERICAN DISCUSSION. By Telegraph—Press Asfo n’ltj n- -Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association NEW YORK, June 11. At the American Federation of Labour Convention to be held at Denver, Colorado, next week, the Irish question is expected to be the paramount issue. Many resolutions have been prepared, including one advocating a boycott of British goods and materials until the war in Ireland is stopped. Another to be presented by the metal workers demands the recall of Admiral Sims and his dishonourable discharge from tlie navy.

ADMIRAL SIMS’S SPEECH. COMMOTION IN AMERICA. WASHINGTON, June 10. Representative Galivan introduced a resolution in the House, which would forbid the readmittance cf Admiral Sims to this country. Admiral Sims’s London speech has created an extraordinary furore in pol-

itical circles. Politicians from States where the Irish vote is prominent have launched bitter attacks against the Admiral. On the other hand it is pointed out that Colonel Harvey was not reprimanded for a speech which caused almost as great commotion. The conservative Press in Washington 1 egrets that Admiral Sims erred in his choice of language, but is inclined to think that there is a great deal of truth in his roma • l's. (The summary of the speech by Admiral Sims has not reached tlie Dominion.)

ADMIRAL S9MS RECALLED. WASHINGTON. June 11. Mr Denby cabled to Admiral Sims that the remainder of his leave had been revoked and that he must return

to America immediately and report to tlie Secretary of the Navy.
