A correspondent in tho “Sydney Morning Herald ” urges that if the departure cl' tho mail steamers for New Zealand could be delayed a few hours it would he a great advantage to business people. Hot points out that under the present arrangements mails for steamers departing on Thursday morning close at five on Wednesday seventeen hours before the hour of departure, while in other States the mails close a day earlier on account of a bteomev timed to leave before the arI'ival of the Melbourne-Brisbane expresses. COCKATOO ISLAND REPORT. MELBOURNE, June 10. The Cockatoo Island interim report recommends the resumption of work. Sir Joseph Cook slated that with fho money available in the new financial year the work would*soon be resumed.
