Germany assured Britain that she will order General Hofer, commanding the self-defence troops in Upper Silesia, to obey the Allied Commission and withdraw from the territory taken from the Polish insurgents. It is expected that this will relieve a strained situation. An exchange of Notes between Britain and France resulted in the indefinite postponement of the Boulogne Conference on Upper Silesian problems. Britain endorses the French theory that the first necessity is to restore order, and will await the report of experts before taking the next step. A curious development occurred in Paris, the German Ambassador protesting against the withdrawal of Allied tpoops from German villages in Upper Silesia, whereas he previously complained of harsh treatment. TERRIBLE SCENES, POLES AND. BAVARIANS. LONDON, June 8. Tlie “Times” correspondent at Oppeln states that the Poles evacuated the town in accordance with the British demand and British troops occupied it. insurgents suffered heavy losses m live counter attacks at Kandrzin.
