CLAIMS FOR COMPENSATION. [Pxa Pr.rss Association. - ] WELLINGTON. May *24. Judgment was given by the Arbitration Court to-day in the claims for compensation arising out of the deaths by.drowning of the captain and engineer of the auxiliary schooner Omaka, which was wrecked oil Foncarrovv Head .n January last. The question at issue in each case was whether the deceased was a worker employed by way of manual labour so as io bring him within section 2 cf the Workers’ Compensation Act. Judgment in the case of the captain was for the defendants. Tlie widow of the engineer was awarded £•300 and costs £l2 12s and funeral expenses £2B. The mother of an able seaman was awarded £l5O with costs, and the mother of another member of the crew £3OO and costs.
