SOCIAL WELFARE GUILD.

NEW CHARITABLE SOCIETY. A Social Welfare Guild lias been formed in Christchurch to work with benevolent organisations in the distribution of charitable relief during the hard times that aro believed to be ahead. A preliminary meeting called by M-es-dunes Herbert and Green. who are members of the Charitable Aid Board, was held on Friday last, when about forty ladies attended- Airs Herbert and Mrs Green addressed the meeting, explaining that tho Charitable Aid Board merely provided groceries and similar things, and there was room for further assistance. Tlie guild could obtain funds by sewing and also by a street collection. Tt was decided to form tho association, and meet again next Friday.
