AN ELECTRIC CHICKENHATCHER.

A French rex an devised an artificial hatcher of eggs, which was heated and controlled by the electric current- The heating was effected by a series of bore platinum wires made incandescent by the electric current. The heat of these burners kept the temperature of the box or hatcher containing the eggs constant, for by means of a regulating thermometer the current could be cut off when the temperature became too high. Such a mercuiy thermometer can be made by making the rise of mercury “short circuit * 9 or cross-connect the poles of the battery supplying the current when the column rose to a particular height. The short circuiting shunted the current: off the platinum wires through the mercury. The application wa< a. very interesting one, ;i.nd presented no practical difficulties.
