NEW SWIMMING BATHS.
BECKENHAM DISTRICT PROPOSAL The construction of a swimming bath at Beckenham was discussed last night at a meeting held under the auspices of the Beckenham School Committee and the committee of a fair which had boon held to raise funds for the bath. Mr W. J. Champion presided. The chairman said that the Education Board’s architect had inspected the proposed site for the bath. He had reported unfavourably concerning it. However, a site in the park was considered l»v him to be suitable. If the consent of the City Council to the use of the site could bo obtained, tho matter could bo vow satisfactorily arranged. .Mr A. C. Maxwell, head master of the school, said that the site in the park was only a few yards from the school gate. If it were built there it would be convenient for school child: en and also residents of Beckenham. Tf the both were placed in the school ground it would take up nearly nil the nvailab’e space. The bath would ho twenty-five yards long and ten yards wide. The City Council might be induced to give the site in the park, and to make a grant toward the construction of the bath. The total cost would be’ about £BOO. The whole district would be directly interested- in the bath if it were placed in the park, and financial assistance would probably bo obtained more easily. Mr Maxwell moved:—“That n deputation p rom this meeting wait on 4 he City Council and find out what the position is with regard to the site in the park, and also as to financial assistance.” It was decided that the chairman and Messrs H. C. Smith, Carlisle and Maxwell should wait on the Education Board and the City Council regarding the matter.
