ST JOHN AMBULANCE.

MEETING OF GENERAL COMMITTEE. The General Committee o£ the Canterbury and West Coast Centre of the St John Ambulance Association met last night, Lieuten-ant-Colonel F. B. Cresswell presiding. The secretary reported that the sum or £IOO had been received from the Health Department, and it was decided that £l2 10s should go to Colonel Barclay as suggested by the department. The statement of receipts and expendi'ur* to Mav 11 showed ihat the receipts, including a credit of £895 2s 13d brought forward, amounted to £978 8s Jod and the expenditure to £707 10s 3d, leaving «*. credit of £270 18s 7d. There was a credit of £132 12s fid in tho Motor Ambulance Fund, and of £IOB2 6s Id in the general fund, making the total credits £1485 17s 2d. Mr J. O. M’G'illivray, secretary of the Canterbury Rugby Union, wrote conveying the union's thanks for 4 be splendid services rendered by the association's representatives who attended to the late Mr Aitken on the Show Grounds. He asked tha* thanks should be conveyed to those in charge of the ambulance for the prompt manner in which they attended to the cal! for assistance. The secretary of the Hospi al Board wrote stating that the board had granted a subsidy of £IOO to the association. The secretary reported th&+ be had written to the manager of the Rink Taxis conveying •a report that Dr orchard had rurg the garage at midnight on May 10 for an ambulance to take a pa ient to a private hospital and was informed that no chauffeur was available at that time to drive either an ambu- ! lance or a taxi. Mr \V. J. Hayward had j replied thnt Dr Orchard’s message was near ; two o’clock, and was for a taxi, not tho ! ambulance. Dr Orchard was told that the ! four drivers on dutv at that time were at j St Margaret’s College, wnere a dance was j being held.
