Savape, M.P., that during the last fortnight members of the Amalgamated Society of Engineers were discharged from the Newmarket railway workshops. Other men have since been engaged for the same work. He that the men discharged were engineers from England who had a verbal understanding from a Government representative here that they would # get six months’ employment in their respeetive occupations. The locomotive engineer denies any knowledge of anv agreement. He says that men are discharged from time to time because they do not give satisfaction. and others are taken on.
