TO-DAY’S CASES. CHRISTCHURCH. The Christchurch sitting of the Magistrate’s Court to-day tv as presided over by Air V. G. Day, S.At. drunkenness. A female first offender was convicted and discharged. William Cash ion. a third offender, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. A prohibition order was issued against him. IN A BAD STATE. Frowning heavily, a first offender admitted having been helplessly drunk. “ I wish to have a prohibition order issued against myself,” he said. SeniorSergeant Kelly said that the man was in a very bad state when arrested. A doctor had to be called for him twice, ; and he had incurred hospital expenses. ; Tho offender was ordered to pay expenses (£2 13s), in default a week’s , imprisonment. The prohibition order was issued against him. DRINK ON A SHIP. f ‘ flow did you get drunk?” asked the Ala gist rate, when a lad aged seventeen years, a fireman, came before him. “I got the drink on board ship,” said the lad. “ You were drunk when you left Lyttelton?” asked the Al agist rate. “•Yes,” was the reply. Another lad, aged nineteen yeaTS, told a similar story. Ikith lads were convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when culled upon. Don’t let this happen again,” said the Magistrate.

LYTTELTON. (Beforo Mr S. E. M’Carthy, S.M.). DR UNKEN NESS. Edward Fray, charged with drunkenness and being an idle and disorderly person, was sentenced. to three months’ imprisonment. Two first offenders were each fined FAILING TO PARADE. For failing to attend Territorial parades, Victor John Clench, who had only attended drill four times out of thirty-eight parades, was fined 10s. and ordered to pay costs. John Richard Huston, who had attended four parades out of twenty-four, was fined 5s and costs. Ormond Michael Lene's case was adjourned until .Tiilv G. Thomas Henry Newton, who had not attended any parade during the past “twelve months, was convicted and ordered (o come up when called. George W. Palmer was convicted and discharged. Heathcote Graham Pitcaithlv was convicted and fined ss. and ordered to pay costs. Afacroa Riwai, who had been granted exception up to September, was ordered to pav costs. Joseph Francis Walklin was fined ss. PROCURING LIQUOR. Edward Sullivan, charged with entering licensed premises while prohibited and procuring liquor, was convicted and fined £'!2 nn each charge, in default to seven days on each charge, the sentences to be cumulative. ALLEGED BREAGH OF LICENSING ACT. Myrtle Hill (Air Thomas), licensee of the Empire Hotel, was charged with permitting drunkenness on licensed premises. A plea of not guilty was entered. Constable Hi slop stated that on the evening of Alay 3 he entered the Empire Hotel, in company with Canstable Mannix. The latter drew the attention of the barmaid in the private bar to the condition of a man namen Flax. The licensee was also there, and in a position to see the man's condition. Alvrile Hill said that on the night in question her attention was drawn to a man under the influence of drink. The barmaid looked at witness who told her not to serve him. At the same time witness told the man to get out. Tt was only a matter of a minute or i&a from the time tho man came in and the police arrived. She would, in any case, have put the man out as soon as she bad finished giving a man some change. The police came in and took the man away. Judgment was reserved.
