MAY DAY IN JAPAN.
LABOUR DEMONSTRATIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. Australian and N.Z.. Cable Association. TOKYO. May 2 May Day was marked by Labour demonstrations of considerable importance" throughout the empire, especially in Tokio, Osaka, Kobe and Yokohama. Meetngs adopted resolutions favouring an eight-hour day, assistance to unemployed and extension of the franchise to labourers. Paraders in Osaka carried a banner inscribed, “ Revolution is near at hand.” Police guards were heavily reinforced, but generally did not. interfere with the demonstrators, except in Tokio. where fifteen arrests were made, including women.
