NEW POST OFFICE BUILDINGS.
WORK PROGRESSING
After a long spell of inactivity, due to, various causes, work lias been resuined on the buildings in Hereford Street which form part of the scheme of post office extension. The contractors (Messrs J. and W. Jamieson) state that the work is now progressing satisfactorily. Some difficulties had been experienced, but they had now been practically overcome. The shortage of cement" had ceased to be a problem, and labour also was easier to obtain than it had been in the past. The work had been handicapped by the delay in receiving the steel girders ordered from Home, but £SOOO worth of these had come to hand last week.
Mr Jamieson said that although the building was a comparatively small one, it would be very solid, and there was a great deal of work in it. It was being made as nearly fireproof as possible, and the roof is to be of concrete.
It will probably be from twelve to fifteen month?, before the building is completed.
