CITY COUNCIL.

A BRIEI' MEETING. A brief meeting of the. Christchurch City Council, or the council as it now exists, wns held last evening : present the Mayor (Dr Thacker, M.P.). and Councillors O. I*. Agar. . A. Vie slier, ,J. 1?,. Brunt, \V. H. Winsor. H. F. Herbert. J. K. Archer, D. G. Sullivan. M P., and H. T. Armstrong. The Mayor, in welcoming new councillors. said that under the Proportional Representation Act of 1911. as each councillor was declared elected, he was eligible to take his seat on the council. The question of seats and of constitution of committees would not be fixed until a, full meeting of the council. The new councillors signed the declaration on the prescribed form, and then a brief agenda of formal business W as dealt with. The accounts were passed for payment, and it was decided, on the motion of Councillor Agar, to adjourn for one week. Dr Thacker announced that the Mayoral installation ceremony would be held to-morrow evening, provided th© election count had been completed. “ That's all the business, gent]emeu." said the Mayor.
