INFORMAL VOTES.
THE OFFICIAL FIGURES, P.R. NOT RESPONSIBLE. The informal votes in the election of City (Councillors totalled 1060. representing between. 6 and 7 per cent, of the total votes cast. An analysis of the reasons for these informalities shows that in more than half of the total informalities, the elector used the old system of putting crosses against- sixteen candidates, instead of numbering 1. 2, 3. and so on. Cases of misnumbenng up to three supplied 84.340 per cent- of tlie informalities. Misnumbering above three did not make a vote informal. The official figures are: Informal p.c. of inf.
Tlie percentage of informal votes was 1.05 in the mayoral contest.
