Tn view of the discussion. at the annual meeting of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society, on the use of boats for shooting ducks on Lake Ellesmere, and the varied opinions which were expressed at that meeting, tho society has taken a legal opinion. In is as follows:—(J) Ducks may only be shot from a scrub hut, a mud-hole or a mimi. none of which shall be used in any part of the hike in which the water is more than two feat in depth. (2) A boat concealed among the vegetation growing along the margin of the lake may he used for shooting, but> such boat shall not be dressed or covered in any way. (3) Save as aforesaid no boat may be used on the lake for the purpose of shooting game, whether wounded or unwounded, hut may only he used for the purpose of recovering game that lias been shot.
